4. Curatorship Honours Degree
In 2017 I completed an Honours in Curatorship at the University of Cape Town (UCT) through Michaelis School of Fine Art, hosted by the Centre for Curating the Archive (CCA) in collaboration with Iziko National Museums.
My dissertation and exhibition focused on temporary, site-specific exhibitions as experiences of forging meaning between the people present, and their surroundings. By employing Relational Aesthetics as a theoretical framework and exploring case studies Art Meets and Open Dialog Box, my research highlighted the encounters and interconnectivity that establish a sense of meaning and ultimately make up an art ecosystem. I hosted a round table discussion with curators and artists, as well as a collaborative workshop, Together Tonight, in preparation for my exhibition.
My final exhibition WE MADE IT, experienced by examiners only, took the form of a collaborative making-session within a curated space consisting of multimedia from my previous workshop's participants. Simple prompts were followed to co-create works, take photos of the process and then add these photos and works to the surrounding exhibition. A table with refreshments complemented the convivial experience.
